Just Make Yourself Comfortable

Not Hers

Fortunately, Eliana does not think Dudley's bed is hers. She's lucky that he allows her to get this close.

Little Tushy

I heard Sasha laughing hysterically the other day. She and Eliana were coloring at the coffee table so I was a bit worried about what was going on. Well, I guess Eliana was tired of sitting on her knees, so she got Elmo's stool and sat on that.

F-F-F-F-F-Rost in F-F-F-F-Florida!

This has gone too far!

Eliana is REEEEALLY into the "No Mine!" stage.

Just today, she opened the door to go outside but Murray ran out first.
"No Murray! My outside!"

We were on our way home from gym class and she was bit tired and pretty grouchy.
"Noooooooo my home, cars, my home!"

You don't EVEN want me to list the general everyday things that are hers.

A Little Bit of Funny

A Forward from my sister:

Life Lesson #45893:
Always check your child's homework before it gets to school!

When asked to draw a picture of what they wanted to be when they grew
up, second-grader "Sarah" turned in the lovely drawing shown below.
Needless to say, the teacher was a bit surprised -- Mrs. Smith had always
seemed like such a conservative woman. So she sent a note home to the
girl's mother asking for clarification as to the picture's meaning.
(read Mom's reply below the picture)

(Here's the reply the teacher received the following day)
Dear Mrs. Jones,
I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer.
I work at Home Depot and I told my daughter how hectic it was last week
before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out every single shovel we had,
and then I found one more in the back room, and that several people were
fighting over who would get it. Her picture doesn't show me dancing
around a pole. It's supposed to depict me selling the last snow shovel we
had at Home Depot. From now on I will remember to check her homework
more thoroughly before she turns it in.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Smith

I never know if these forwards are true or not, but I could certainly see Sasha drawing something that could be misinterpreted!

I absolutely love "Where Were You?" Moments!

Where were you?

I think my earliest "Where were you?" moment was when the Challenger blew up. I remember I was walking with my 7th...maybe 6th grade class to our Science class after lunch. The class before ours was walking to lunch and someone told us. That is where I was.

I remember where I was when I found out about the planes hitting the World Trade Center. I was teaching and another teacher on my team came to my classroom came by to tell me.

And then there are the personal moments but you don't want to hear about them. ;)

Then there was today. Do you know where I was? I was a Circuit City! Can you believe it? I had ordered Guitar Hero for our Wii last week to pick up at Circuit City. I never got around to it this weekend and today was the best day to go. I had planned to be home in time to watch the Swearing -in and Obama's speech but it just didn't work out. Instead, I watched it with all the other Circuit City customers, a racially diverse bunch, but all of us beliving in the same thing. It felt good to be a part of group watching this Historic Event.

I tried to keep Sasha and Eliana as involved as possible. They were so great. We watched Biden get sworn in, the quartet play, Obama's Oath of Office and about 1/2 of his speech before Eliana said, "I go home, now," and Sasha asking, "Mom, I think we passed lunchtime". I quickly snapped out of it and took care of business. Guitar Hero is waiting for us on the table, my Sasha had a good lunch and Eliana made it home, asleep and happy.

It's not a surprise to probably all of you that I am an Obama supporter and was very excited for today. I would like to think that no matter who you voted for, you have to realize that change is very much necessary. A poem was included in the inaugural events today, recited by Elizabeth Alexander. It feels as though I've written a thousand sentences on what these two lines mean to me and I keep deleting them. I think it's personal. I think you should read them and you should listen to Obama's Inaugural Address. Then, you should decide how you will walk forward. How will you begin?

In today's sharp sparkle, this winter air, anything can be made, any sentence begun.
On the brink, on the brim, on the cusp -- praise song for walking forward in that light.

PSA

If your toddler likes to play with her kitchen set, you might want to check it every few days for real food. You might especially want to open all the doors and look for sippy cups full of milk.

That's all I'm saying.

The Letter

Sasha got the lice letter today. NOT HER!!! Thank Goodness!! Someone in her class has lice and we got the dreaded letter printed on brown paper.

Gross. I'm so neurotic about her getting lice. See this post. Seriously, I don't want to ever have to deal with that. Oh lord, could you imagine me combing through Eliana's hair looking for nits? Lice is not a part of parenting I want to experience.

Do you think I should home-school? ;)

**Shudder**Shudder**

Are you smarter than a 2-year-old?

I bought the movie Tinkerbell for Sasha for Hanukkah. Eliana wants to watch it every day, on the hour. Every. Hour. I do have my limits, though, and Tinkerbell has become Eliana's treat while Mommy takes a shower. Today, she grabbed my hand, pointed to Tinkerbell and said, "Tinkerbell flies and hold hands with friend and then they sit down". I watched with her and low and behold, Tinkerbell flew, held hands with her friend and then they sat down!

I know, I know, don't tell me, it's memorization. I'm not dumb. Remember I taught elementary school for 9 years and I used to seethe at parents who told me how smart their children were because they memorized this, that and the other thing.

But she just turned 2! She can count to 20. Granted, the numbers between 14 and 19 are a bit mumbled and kind of sound like fifeen-fifeen-fifeen-19-20! Then she cheers for herself. "Yay, I did it! Yay Eliana". But the best part is that after she cheers, she puts her hands up in the air and says, "Thank you! Thank you!" (I believe this is the influence of the Hannah Montana concert video and cd we watch and listen to several times a week---but I can't be too sure with this kid.)

So you see, she is smart. I wish I could pick up on things that fast. Then, I could solve all the world's problems and I would know why the caged bird sings.

But, alas, I will sit here and drink my wine while I watch The Bachelor and talk to my dogs.

Photo Shoot

I entered the girls in a photo contest for a local magazine. Mostly, I did it because the sitting fee was waived for a great local photographer. Of course, being the competitive person I am and the very biased mommy, I really hope my beautiful girls win. Judge for yourself:

Pickin' da berries and a-huntin' the gators!

I love Florida in the winter. Where else can you go pick strawberries and then travel around the corner to look at alligators?

There is a nearby Pick-your-own strawberries place and we went today. It was gigantic and filled with strawberries. Sasha went nuts, a little too nuts and we had to slow her down and teach her how to pick the best strawberries. Sasha finally decided that any berry "bigger than her nose" was big enough. Well, sure, Sasha. Eliana just liked pointing to the strawberries and jumping up and down in the dirt.

7 3/4 lbs worth and we could have kept going. We've been eating them all afternoon. They are so sweet, like someone poured sugar all over them, and it's not just because I touched them...Ohhhhhh I'm so funny! I have 2 recipes I'd like to try tomorrow, strawberry bread---I know! Bread?!---and strawberry ice cream.

The alligators were just around the corner. I have to admit thought, I'm not a big fan of alligators, they creep me out. When in Florida.... There was an alligator in the gift shop, in an aquarium. When we walked in, he stood up to his full height, which wasn't that tall but to me seemed like a billion feet tall. Then, he/she (I don't know how you tell them apart, nor do I care.) gave us this terrible, menacing look (do they have any other look) and puffed out his body. Matt said, "This is like a movie," and we both decided we didn't want to see if he/she was going to break through the glass and jump on our heads...or something. And this is coming from someone who taught one day, all day, with a bearded dragon climbing around on her shoulders. Alligators...no thank you. Fortunately, the only we ones we saw were locked up or way far out in the water!

A little bit of fun

Just a little bit of cuteness from my Little Man.

Have you seen the show Stomp?

We had a showing in our backyard just the other day.

After performing for a bit, Eliana decided to "jump-rope" to the beat.

Just when I thought it was over, Eliana played drums on Sasha's head. Do you know, Sasha didn't even flinch. They were so into it.
Our first butterfly since I've had my new camera and he/she wouldn't open his/her wings for me!!

I am a true blogger...and mom.

I was helping Sasha with her homework and somehow Eliana teleported to the bathroom. Really, I didn't see her walk right past me to get to my bedroom. After realizing, thankfully not too much later, that it was much too quiet, I walked back to my bedroom just as Eliana was walking out.

With my mascara

Open

In her hand

Putting it all over her face.

Thank goodness I rarely wear mascara (really don't even know why I have it) so she had no idea where it really goes on the face. I guess she thought it was lip gloss because I do share that with her.

I said, "OH NO, ELIANA!" She looked at me very seriously and said, "No use mommy's make-up."

I couldn't control my laughter. Super Nanny would have been so disappointed in me. As Sasha came running over to see what I was laughing about, I told her to make sure Eliana didn't touch anything so I could get my camera.

SO I COULD GET MY CAMERA!

Well, I had to take a picture. You just can't describe something like this.

I REALLY shouldn't have laughed because later on, she found a marker which also ended up all over her face and belly before I could get to her. I promise, I do supervise my children but they are so darn fast. I need a personal trainer to build up my speed.

Sasha has the best BED HEAD in town.

What a polite, little girl.

Eliana decided to be a bear tonight and did NOT want to go to bed.

She just wanted to play while I was rocking her:

Eliana--Mommy High-5! Mommy, like this (pulling out my hand).

Mommy--No, Eliana, it's time to go to sleep. Put your head on my shoulder and go to sleep.

Eliana--OK Mommy. Smile, like this (arranging my face into a grin). Eliana take you picture.

Mommy--Eliana, It's time to go to sleep. I'm going to put you in your bed if you keep playing.

Eliana--No, thank you, Mommy. Smile for picture, like this (again, arranging my lips into a smile).

How can you not laugh?

2 Year Visit

Weight is 26.5 pounds (49%ile)
Height is 34.25 inches (64%ile)
BMI--15.88 (34%ile) Yes! They start measuring a child's BMI now at age 2 because of the rise in child obesity. Sad...sad....sad....But Eliana is good.

More Birthday Pictures

Happy 2nd Birthday Eliana!

DAY 1
1-Year-Old

It wasn't such a pleasant birthday for anyone in the house. She was up twice last night crying and crying. She's teething. She was soooo tired but decided she wasn't going to take a nap today either. Well, it's her birthday, why should she? It took quite a bit of persuasion and persistance but she finally took a nap. We had a quiet family celebration with a special guest appearance from Bubbe.
Introducing Our Newest 2-Year-Old!
